TALKING POINTS
Public safety
communication services are offered on a daily basis in a dynamic
environment of ever changing political, technological and social
expectation.
The APCO Call
Center Standards/Training Committee is charged with continued
monitoring of the existing training requirements. In addition,
the Committee makes proposed revisions as necessary in order to
offer every community with current, best practices for call
taking and dispatch training.
- In 2007, the Minimum Training Standard for Public Safety Communications Training Officer (CTO) was adopted as the first APCO International American National Standard (ANS) - APCO ANS 3.101.1-2007.
- The Committee is currently developing recommended standards for minimum qualifications for Communications Managers/Directors.
- The Committee is currently reviewing and revising the Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Telecommunicators (P33).
- The Committee continues to work with the Standards Development Committee to establish ANSI-approved national standards for public safety communications.
- The committee is working to identify additional standards to enhance the public safety communications profession.
