APCO CTO Appointed to US Department of Commerce Spectrum Management Advisory Committee

Alexandria, VA – The Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo recently appointed APCO International Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Steve Devine as a member of the US Department of Commerce’s Spectrum Management Advisory Committee (CSMAC). Devine brings 40 years of experience in public safety communications spanning from spectrum management, dispatch operations and Project 25 technologies.

The CSMAC advises the assistant secretary of commerce for communications and information at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) on a broad range of policy issues related to spectrum management. Committee members reflect a cross section of interests in spectrum management and policy including non-federal spectrum use; state, regional and local sectors; technology developers; academia and service providers.

“I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to the CSMAC to ensure the best interest of public safety communications. APCO is dedicated to protecting the public safety spectrum to serve the mission-critical communications needs of first responders charged with the protection of their communities,” said Steve Devine, CTO, APCO International.

The current charter for the committee is to provide advice and recommendations on needed reforms to domestic spectrum policies such as licensing radio frequencies to enable public benefit and ensuring wireless networks are as open to innovation as possible. Devine will serve a two-year term.

“APCO has a long history of collaboration with the U.S. Department of Commerce and NTIA,” said Mel Maier, CEO and executive director, APCO international. “Steve’s appointment to the CSMAC demonstrates a commitment from federal partners to hear from a member-led professional organization on spectrum-related policies and management, and it speaks to the technical and operational experience of our chief technology officer.”
