Seeks working group members to assist with the revisions
Alexandria, VA – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International has filed two American National Standard Institute (ANSI) Project Initiation (PINS) for the APCO ANS Core Competencies and Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Communications Training Coordinator and the APCO ANS Core Competencies and Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Communications Training Officer (CTO).
The training coordinator is typically tasked with the planning, development, coordination, implementation and administration of training programs within an emergency communications center. The CTO is characteristically responsible for on-the-job training of the public safety telecommunicator.
“The revision of the training coordinator standard ensures core competencies and minimum training standards are up to date, especially on theories, processes and best practices for adult learning and training methods,” said Angela Batey, President of APCO International. “The communications training officer standard revision is critical to the success of new and veteran employees. APCO is committed to providing current, applicable and up-to-date standards for all positions within public safety.”
APCO is seeking volunteers to establish a working group of diverse stakeholders to contribute to the revision and redesignation of both standards. All interested persons should complete the online application and indicate their preference at Join a Working Group.
The deadline to sign up is August 14, 2023. Selections will be made within two weeks of the deadline date, and all will be notified of their status via email. Additional information can be obtained by contacting the Standards Program Manager at [email protected] or by calling (469) 424-7599.
