On September 17, APCO Regional Representative Paul McCallister met with Senator Blackburn (R-TN) and her staff to raise awareness of the need to fully fund NG9-1-1 nationwide. Senator Blackburn serves on the Senate Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction over the NG9-1-1 funding legislation, and is a lead co-sponsor of the Enhancing First Response Act (S. 3556), the legislation to federally reclassify public safety telecommunicators as a protective service occupation in the Standard Occupational Classification. During the meeting, Mr. McCallister discussed the potential benefits of a fully integrated NG9-1-1 system by explaining how modernized 9-1-1 technology may have further improved the emergency response to the Covenant School shooting in Nashville, TN.
