APCO Seeks Comments on Candidate American National Standard for Core Competencies and Minimum Training Requirement for Public Safety Communications Technicians

Alexandria, VA – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International is seeking comments for the candidate American National Standard (ANS) for Core Competencies and Minimum Training Requirements for Public Safety Communications Technicians.

The revision of this standard includes updates providing technicians in the emergency communication center (ECC) environment the guidance needed to enhance their skills, seek employment opportunities and grow professionally within the industry.

“As technology continues to change, we must continue to provide all employees with the necessary tools necessary to succeed,” said Jason Kern, APCO International President. “Technicians’ tasks range from installing, maintaining, monitoring and managing technological systems. This standard ensures the continuance and success of mission critical operations nationwide in ECCs.”
