APCO Seeks Working Group Members for the Revision of an Operational Standard

Alexandria, VA – APCO International has filed a Project Initiation with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to revise APCO American National Standard (ANS) Best Practices for ECCs When Processing Vehicle Telematics Calls from Telematics Service Providers. This revision seeks to identify best practices and operational requirements for ECCs to receive and process vehicle-initiated telematics calls. We are looking for individuals with training, technical and operational knowledge to participate in the revision of this standard.

“As we strive to enhance the standards that shape the future of public safety, we call upon the expertise and dedication of the industry community,” said Stephen Martini, president of APCO International. “Participating in the standards development process is an invaluable endeavor, reflecting our collective commitment to excellence. Together, we lead the way in setting standards that truly make a difference in emergency communications.”

The groundbreaking standard addresses three game-changing scenarios:

  • Advanced automatic crash notifications with real-time severity assessment.
  • In-vehicle eCalls that transform vehicles into mobile emergency beacons.
  • Stolen vehicle recovery that keeps communities safer.

All interested persons, including users, producers and those with general interest in vehicle telematics should complete the online application to join this working group at Join a Working Group. Participants in an APCO standards working group will acquire points toward their Registered Public-Safety Leader (RPL) recertification.

The deadline to sign up is May 31. Selections will be made within two weeks of the closing date, and all will be notified of their status via email. Additional information can be obtained by contacting the Standards Program Manager at [email protected].
