APCO Suggests Rule Changes to Support Innovative Technologies in the 4.9 GHz Band

On February 4, APCO filed a Petition for Rulemaking with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that requests changes to the technical rules for the 4.9 GHz band to enable advanced technologies such as 5G to operate in the band. Improving the technical rules to allow these advanced technologies will enable more robust use of the band for public safety. Specifically, APCO suggested changes to the current power levels and out-of-band emissions limits to align with the requirements for other spectrum bands that support nationwide mobile broadband network deployment. These changes will complement the FCC’s efforts to support public safety use and spur innovation in the 4.9 GHz band.
