“It’s not how we do business,” Rebecca Conners said is the way to respond to coworkers who resist culture change.
This presentation focused on identifying what challenges to morale and employee engagement exist within an ECC and how to improve the culture. The presenters explained how a fully overhauled strategic plan and reworked values began to deliver a positive impact to their ECC’s culture. Their values? GOLDEN: Generous, Open, Leaders, Dedicated to Service, Efficient and Empathetic, and Notable. These values are intrinsically linked to every coworker, from recruitment to retirement, and are the building block for all interactions, long- and short-range plans, and the Big Hairy Audacious Goal of the agency.
Armed with numerous bee metaphors and puns, the presenters engaged their audience in a quick word scramble bee hunt, which reminded attendees to “bee all there”, wherever they were. Review of the agency’s values and different ways their coworkers model these values connected with the level of data-proven positive improvement that occurs during the agency’s numerous engagement programs. At the end of the presentation, attendees were invited to ask questions and share experiences on their own journey of culture change.
