APCO life member Emil Thomas Vogel, 83, formerly of Rochester, New York, passed away in Seneca, South Carolina, on May 25 after suffering a heart attack. Mr. Vogel retired from Motorola and was a supporter of public safety. He was very active with APCO, including as a member of the Spectrum Management Committee.
He served in management positions for Motorola for 37 years, traveling nationally and internationally. He founded his own company in 1999 and continued to serve public safety in that capacity.
He was a member of Major City Chiefs, serving as a Communication Committee member. He was a member of the International Association of Police Chiefs and was a Life Member of APCO as well as a fellow of the Radio Club of America.
The family asks that any contributions be sent in Emil’s name to the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen, sons Emil Thomas Vogel Jr., Tobias Alan Vogel and grandchildren Christiana Carly Vogel, Dalton Tobias Vogel and Aidan Brennan Vogel. No services are planned because of health concerns caused by the coronavirus.
