Mike Dame from NTIA’s Office of Public Safety Communications provided updates on efforts related to NG9-1-1 and lessons learned from the most recent 9-1-1 grant program. During the presentation, Dame highlighted fundamental concepts for NG9-1-1 from NTIA’s perspective, including interoperability, multimedia capabilities, resiliency, and cybersecurity. Dame explained that “NG9-1-1 will enable ECCs to receive a variety of multimedia and other data from 9-1-1 callers and seamlessly share this information with other ECCs and responding fire, EMS, and law enforcement officials in the field.” Session attendees also discussed how real-time multimedia data can enhance 9-1-1 center operations and emergency response.
